Sometimes, I’m convinced that the worst part of my past body images issues is that I missed out countless sloppy high school and college sex adventures.

I was pretty late to learning how to “spit game”, a skill that’s impossible to hone when the idea of someone seeing you shirtless…

It is illegal for women to go topless in most cities, yet you can buy a magazine of a woman without her top on at any 7-11 store. So, you can sell breasts, but you cannot wear breasts, in America.

This is one of my favorite quotes about sexualization/objectification vs autonomy of female bodies bc it’s so succinct

for the first time in 5 years, I won’t get to see Alvin Ailey’s “Revelations” performed. i’m kind of heartbroken about this. I have not had many financial luxuries in my lifetime but for one night I got to feel like royalty sitting front row at the Kennedy Center. The emotions I’ve felt while watching Revelations is akin to being touched by the holy ghost. It is one of the defining moments where I fully understand what Black pride means to me, and why telling our story, our way, is so crucial. The legacy of his work as a gay man, a dancer, an African American, and a storyteller inspires me to live as creatively as possible and serves as a reminder to trust that vulnerability and honesty is an asset to my own art and not a liability.

I debated continuing to sleep or waking up and going out. compromise. i texted my closest friends and got up and went to my altar. said a prayer thanking the ancestors for getting me through 2012. lawd, it was rough. i thanked them for the blessings i know i will receive in 2013. i thanked them for returning my family to me and for keeping them safe. my new year’s resolution is to let love in. candles lit. sage lit. incense lit. prayer said. goodnight/morning. happy new year yall. let’s get this money! *Trina voice*
